AIP has recorded the terminal gate price every weekday since January 2004. The national record for unleaded is 249.4 c/L, set on 26 March 2026; the lowest since 2016 was 80.8 on 17 April 2020, when the pandemic emptied the roads.
The year-by-year table shows how the decade split: cheap years before 2021, the 2022 spike after the invasion of Ukraine, and 2026, whose average so far is 181.6 c/L.
The terminal price includes excise and GST, so the 2026 cut shows up as a dip in April and the restored rate as a step in August.
